ROAD closures will be in place in Alton town centre on Sunday (November 26) to facilitate the Home-Start WeyWater charity Santa Run.
The closure will be in operation from noon to 5pm and will affect the length of the High Street, from its junction with Church Street to the junction with Lady Place car park (by The White Horse pub) and will include Market Street, the Market Square, Turk Street, and Cross and Pillory Lane.
There will be a second road closure in place the following Sunday (December 3) for Alton’s Yuletide Festival. This will take place from 6am to 7pm and will also affect the length of the High Street, Market Street, the Market Square, Turk Street, and Cross and Pillory Lane.
The Yuletide Festival will run from 10am to 4pm and this year will embrace the switch on of the town’s Christmas lights at 3pm outside the Assembly Rooms.
The festival will bring hundreds of craft, charity, market, food and festive stalls into the High Street and the Assembly Rooms, alongside funfair rides, street entertainers, live music and, new to the event, a family entertainment zone in the Market Square with an event marquee, live nativity, mulled wine, and hog roast stalls.
It will coincide with a Christmas cracker fair at Alton Community Centre.
* Visitors to the town on Sunday, December 3, will be entitled to free parking for three hours after which they will need to pay the £1 Sunday parking charge, unless they are parked at Roger’s Court, Vicarage Hill and Victoria Road car parks which are free on Sundays.
