THE closure of Pulens Lane in Petersfield has got Petersfield motorist Alastair Godwin seeing red. The road has been officially closed since before Christmas, but it has remained open for access only. However, last weekend motorists found the road had been completely blocked off. "The works in progress this weekend do not justify complete closure of the road," said Mr Godwin. "The only works were in progress on the east side of the carriageway and a large number of vehicles were observed - including trailers - having to turn around at Barnfield Road due to inadequate signage." He said other traffic was seen accessing Heathfield Road, a no through road, due to more badly signed notices. "The net result was additional congestion at the junctions of Moggs Mead and Tor Way southbound and traffic diverted west from the southern end of the works at Durford Road through Heath Road towards the town centre," he said. A spokeswoman for Hampshire County Council told The Herald the matter was being investigated. l See letters, page 11.
