MOTORISTS on the A3 are set to face even more misery and hold-ups later this month when the main Portsmouth to London trunk road is closed for weekend repairs.

Both carriageways will be closed from the A287 Hindhead crossroads to the A283 and B3001 junction at Milford between midnight on Friday, October 18, to 5 am on Monday, October 21 for road works.

Among the work being carried out is gulley and manhole cleaning and repairs, tree work, sweeping, white lining, sign cleaning and re-surfacing work.

If necessary the road could also be closed during the same hours starting on Friday, October 25 or Friday, November 1.

During the closures southbound traffic will be diverted from the A3 at Guildford onto the A31 Hog's Back towards Farnham, then south on the A325 to rejoin the A3 south of Hindhead.

Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion route in reverse direction or use the A287 north from Hindhead to join the main diversion route at Farnham.

Southbound high-sided vehicles will be diverted from the A31 at Farnham via the B3001 Tilford Road, Great Austins and the B3384 to join the A325 south of Wrecclesham.

Northbound high-sided vehicles will follow the same diversion route in reverse direction.

The A3 south of Milford will provide access to and from Thursley only.

The Highways Agency has said that the road closures, routes and access arrangements will all be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the period of the roadworks.
