HAMPSHIRE County Council's Operation Resilience caused chaos in Liphook on the first day of its eight-week closure programme.
Headley Road, which was blocked off to all traffic leading from and to The Square on Tuesday, attracted more than 800 cars, one artic lorry and a double decker bus, all ignoring road closure signs.
Confronted with a "dead end", they were forced to reverse or turn around in tight spaces, creating a danger to other road users.
