ALEX Lawther, from Liphook, a former student of Churcher’s College, can currently be seen in the box office hit Goodbye Christopher Robin, which was released last month.
Goodbye Christopher Robin is a behind-the-scenes look at the life of author AA Milne and the creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories inspired by his son, Christopher Robin.
Alex plays Christopher Robin as a teenager and a young man.
Simon Williams, headteacher at Churcher’s College in Petersfield, said: “I have always hugely enjoyed watching Alex perform from his first role here as Mole in Wind and the Willows, through his own scripted plays such as Rejected Fairytales to his silver screen breakthrough performance as the young Alan Turing in The Imitation Game and his memorable turn alongside Jerome Flynn in Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror series.
“It’s wonderful to now see him as the eponymous character in Goodbye Christopher Robin.”
The film stars Margot Robbie and Domhnall Gleeson, is a fascinating insight into the origins of Winnie The Pooh, and the impact that success had on its writer AA Milne and his family, particularly his son Christopher Robin.
Alex Lawther can also be seen with Martin Freeman and Paul Whitehouse in the film adaptation of Ghost Stories based on the play by Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson.
He is also starring in a dark TV project called The End of the F***ing World shown on Channel 4, as well as on All 4 and available on Netflix in the new year.
Alex will next be appearing on stage at the Young Vic in London in a new play called The Jungle, directed by Stephen Daldry, which will recreate the Jungle camp near Calais.
Young Vic artistic director David Lan announced that refugees would star alongside actors in the play, as he said: “The play is quite robust theatre and challenges the misconceptions around the camp — what happens when refugees from a range of backgrounds meet well-meaning volunteers from the UK”.
The play runs from December 7 until January 6. For tickets, visit youngvic.org.
