MORE than 150 people put on their dancing shoes and twirled the night away at the Rock the Roof charity event in aid of the Thursley Village Hall Restoration Fund.

On offer was a barbecue and real ales tent, and live music from Loxdown and Rock with Magnum, plus many other local musicians.

One of the organisers, Simon Hall, said: “We raised £1,300 and sold 80 burgers and 50 hotdogs – after expenditure we raised a total of £940, so a profit.

“The bands played for free. First was, Rock with Magnum, a group of men in their early 70s, who performed a collection of rock ‘n’ roll classics.

“Another was Loxdown, a heavy metal band, I don’t think any of them were under 20 years old. They were both really good.

“I performed some folk songs with a keyboard player and there was a bluegrass group. I am going to make this an annual event.

“There was a lot of good will from the village and from outside. The marquee was donated to us, which was great as it rained.”
