A YEAR ago Vicky Jarman of Alton had just joined Alton Rookie Runners, but has since made such good progress she is taking part in the London Marathon on April 24.

After joining the Rookies, who also help those recovering from injury, Vicky completed the graduating 6k race and has gone on to run in several further races.

“They were not quite the London Marathon,” she added. “But I want to do it to raise £2,000 for charity, NEPTanzania, started and managed from the Jarman home in Farringdon.

“NEPTanzania looks to improve the quality and access to education for predominantly Maasai children in a rural region of Tanzania.

This is achieved by establishing close community ties with Maasai elders and obtaining government support.

“The money I am hoping to raise will pay for a playground to be built in the Ngorongoro District for a school which has very little in the way of resources and opportunity for the children.

“It has been proven with other playground projects completed by the charity that there is a significant improvement in attendance, attention and morale from both the students and teachers once the playground has been built.”

Anyone who would like to support Vicky, can sponsor her in at the Rose & Crown or The Golden Pheasant pubs in
