A VETERAN councillor has been immortalised for his service to the community of Lindford after having a room named in his honour.

This month saw Barry Parker-Smith’s retirement from Lindford Parish Council, and friends, family and fellow members came together at its offices to mark his departure and see the room named after him.

“Barry served on the council for more than a decade and during that time he served as deputy chairman and chairman of planning and has always been very supportive of the chairman,” a spokesman for the parish council said.

“In his position of chairman of planning he played an instrumental part in supporting residents with their objections to the proposed Hatch House Farm development.

“He also served as Lindford’s representative on the standing conference committee of vision for Bordon and Whitehill.

“Through his associations he was able to bring a great deal of knowledge and help to the council and will be missed.

“We thank Barry for all of the time and effort given over the years and wish him well for the future.”

To mark his service to the council, it has renamed its committee room The Parker-Smith Room.

Mr Parker-Smith’s wife, Yvonne, plans to continue to serve as a parish councillor.
