ROTARIANS from Weyside and Farnham have braved the weather to cash in for charity.
The kind-hearted and determined bunch battled through torrential rain in Lion & Lamb Yard on October 6 to raise money for struggling people in Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Reports suggest that more than 2,000 people have died following an earthquake and tsunami which hit the island.
More than 67,000 homes were severely damaged or destroyed in the tragedy, leaving 300,000 people without adequate shelter or support.
It has even been suggested that some of the worst-hit areas were so badly damaged that they may now be designated as cemeteries and never rebuilt.
Norma Corkish, of the Rotary Club of Farnham, said: “The response and generosity of those passing through the Lion & Lamb Yard on that miserable Saturday and since has been amazing.
"With Gift Aid, more than £3,000 has been raised. Three ShelterBoxes will be sent immediately with more support following when needs are clearly identified.”
ShelterBox provides emergency shelter for families who have lost everything in natural disasters and conflict, offering essentials like tents, tools and tarpaulins for rebuilding damaged buildings, solar lights for when the power is down, and water filtration and mosquito nets to protect from disease.
