The idea behind Young Enterprise is to introduce young people to the process of business by encouraging them to form a team, set up their own company, raise the capital, design, cost and sell a product, account for the proceeds and break even or make a profit.
The team from Farnham College consisted of Genevieve Barret (managing director), Anca Arhip (finance), Isobel Semon-Ward (sales director), Megan Walsh (marketing director) and Amelia Grigg (marketing director).
The product that the team designed consists of a gift box, whose contents can be adapted to suit the recipient. Those currently available are a dog box and a beauty box. The team is currently considering other types of boxes - for men and/or children, depending on market demand.
Rotarian David Coker, who monitored and supported the team, said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity for the enthusiastic team from Farnham College to learn about the business world-and at the same time to have great fun. They have been a real pleasure to work with.
“Young Enterprise is just one of the many activities involving young people, such as Young Writer, Youth Speaks, Kids Out, Young Epilepsy and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, where the Rotary Club of Farnham is actively engaging with and supporting the young people of the Farnham community.”
