A WELCOME sign of spring are the crocuses now blooming in Castle Street and other areas across the town.
They were planted by Farnham Weyside Rotary Club and are a reminder of the worldwide Rotary campaign to eliminate polio from the world.
The purple flower was chosen because a purple dye is used to mark the little finger of each child immunised in the campaign around the world.
Twenty-five years ago, polio struck 350,000 children every year. There were only 22 cases in 2017, but the campaign will not have succeeded until not a single child in the world has the disease.
For every £1 raised by Rotary, the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation add another £1.
