THE curse of the Ham Barn roundabout on the A3 struck once again this week when yet another lorry overturned as it travelled south. The accident occurred at around 11-30 am on Wednesday as the 47-year-old driver manoeuvred his Tesco delivery lorry around the roundabout. The experienced local driver, who did not wish to be named, was treated for minor injuries at the scene by a Petersfield ambulance crew. He said: "I'm OK, just a few minor cuts and a bruised hip from wearing the seatbelt." Two fire engines from Liphook and Bordon attended the scene, along with three police traffic cars from Cosham and two area cars from Whitehill. "We think the load in the trailer of the lorry had become unstable and unbalanced the trailer, causing it to overturn," said a spokesman from Cosham Traffic Police. Police were forced to divert traffic away from the obstruction, which caused delays for several hours. It was the 18th lorry to overturn at the roundabout since the Petersfield A3 bypass opened, almost 13 years ago in July 1992. It is also the seventh accident since the £110,000 package of safety measures was installed at Ham Barn in the autumn of 1996. Resurfacing work was also carried out in 2002.
