A FAMILY man from Rowledge has described how thoughts of his children growing up without a dad prompted his heartbreaking decision to end a bid to row across the Atlantic Ocean in December.

Father-of-two Nick Rees set out to row the world's second largest ocean with friend Ed Curtis on December 4, as part of the annual Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in aid of charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

But the duo's epic challenge was cut short after violent storms twice capsized their small rowing boat and threw Nick overboard three times before their rescue by a passing container ship on December 17.
