A Rowledge school teacher undertook an extreme camping challenge by enduring ice-cold temperatures to raise money for a cancer charity earlier in the year.

Andrew Fisher the Headteacher at Frensham Heights School in Rowledge went camping for five nights across the local area and raised over £10,000.

The money went to The Fountain Centre a charity that supports people diagnosed with cancer and provides emotional and holistic support, information and signposting, both online and face-to-face for themselves and their families.

In order to get the supplies he needed Andrew was provided with a cold weather kit when specific fundraising targets were met. This meant he started from scratch every day and relied on donations and sponsorship to keep his challenge going.

He camped in the woods, on the ridge overlooking the Frensham valley and on a narrow platform on the side of the Aldridge Theatre.

Andrew took it one step further when he suspended his tent way above the ground on high ropes on the school grounds.

Speaking to BBC Radio Surrey at the time, Andrew said: “I was camping in a floating tent about eight metres in the air. It was cold. It was very bouncy.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity I think for the whole community to think about The Fountain Centre.”

Overall, Andrew raised £10,481 and made his school very proud. On its Instagram page, the school said: “Andrew has reached every level of Frensham-style success and he never gave up. A true inspiration.”
