The event was opened with a prayer and blessing by Reverend David Ashby, followed by a lively performance by Grandpa’s Spells Jazz Band.
Residents were treated to a tea tent with cream teas and homemade cakes, Pimms and strawberries, games and activities which included ‘count the corgis’ and ‘find the hidden letters game’, as well as a children’s royal fancy dress parade, which was judged by Sarah Oliver, headteacher at Rowledge Primary School.
The event was made successful by organisers Nora Tarrant, Leigh Stuart, Karen Young, Jan Clark, Graham Precious, Lucinda Voizey, Georgia Mae Tarrant, Louise Mizen, Diana Precious and Liz Thomas – all who volunteered their time to make this day unforgettable.
Nora said: “It went really well and there was a great crowd, a fantastic turnout. I was there from eight in the morning right up to nine in the evening setting everything up but people were brilliant helping us to tidy up afterwards.
“There was great community spirit, everyone was getting involved and the dads were very helpful at clearing up. There was yurts from Starry Skies Yurts, which were filled with picnics, they looked great – it was a good atmosphere.”
The committee would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help make this day a reality.
