Alton Concert Orchestra will take audience members on a trip to London with a performance of Haydn’s Symphony No.104, known as ‘The London’, at its spring concert on Saturday, April 29 at 7.30pm at the Alton Maltings Centre.
The varied concert programme will start with Mozart’s Overture to Idomeneo featuring the Cimarosa Oboe Concerto with the talented local soloist, Amélie Budd.
Amélie is currently in her third year studying the oboe at the Royal College of Music, London, where she is a Dasha Shenkman scholar. She began playing the oboe aged ten and quickly developed a keen interest in classical performance. After her GCSEs Amélie gained a place on the Hampshire specialist music course at Peter Symonds College, Winchester, where she studied under Roy Carter.
Amélie performed as a soloist in the Winchester Festival in July 2019 and in 2020 was a finalist in the Winchester Young Soloist Competition.
The concert will conclude with Sibelius’ Andante Festivo for Strings followed by Beethoven’s 1st Symphony.
