A HOST of Harry Potters worked their magic last Thursday as The Royal School, Haslemere, celebrated World Book Day.

Junior school pupils and teachers dressed up as their favourite literary characters, with Stick Man and Harry Potter as their favourites, but there was also a good showing of superheroes, princesses, witches, a Thomas the Tank Engine and even a few dinosaurs.

Activities included writing descriptions about ‘monstrous school dinners’, short stories about ‘demon dinner ladies’ and activities about ‘The Famous Five’ and ‘How to train your dragon’. Reception were also particularly excited when ‘A Tiger came to Tea’.

Senior school teachers read extracts from their favourite texts in class, ranging from Ernest Hemingway to CS Lewis, and from Frank Herbert to Sue Townsend. Students and teachers also contributed to a World Book Day Book List entitled ‘A book that changed my life’. nominating titles from ‘The Genesis Flood’ by Henry Morris and John Whitcomb to ‘Les Petites Filles Modeles’ by la Comtesse de Segur.
