A cancer-fighting campaign launched by a Waverley group has raised more than £107,000 for specialist equipment at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
Rotary Club members from around the county recently visited RSH to see the results of their Cut Out Cancer fundraising appeal.
In addition to the equipment their donations will go towards the support, treatment and care of cancer patients at the hospital in Guildford.
The campaign has grown from an idea floated by the Rotary Club of Godalming Woolsack into a regional initiative. Rotary Clubs across Surrey – including Farnham and Haslemere - and neighbouring West Sussex have got involved along with other organisations and well-wishers from around the South.
The campaign was launched in 2023 to raise money for high-tech surgical equipment for the hospital’s new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre. The equipment will allow more accurate and complex surgeries to take place, resulting in faster recovery times.
Haslemere Rotary Club president, Kevin Morris, was part of the Rotary South Cut Out Cancer team that recently paid a visit to the RSH to see where local donations have made a difference.
Members of the surgical team demonstrated how the precise equipment is being used, and shared details on how it is helping to support patients through treatment and recovery.
Colin Simmons, Rotary Club of Godalming Woolsack and Rotary South Cut Out Cancer, said: “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved through this partnership.
“Seeing the equipment being used and hearing about the difference it makes for patients is incredibly rewarding.
“We would like to thank everyone who has supported the campaign so far and look forward to continuing to fund further equipment that will improve the treatment and care for cancer patients at the Royal Surrey.”
