THE Countess of Wessex has made an emotional return to Frimley Park Hospital to open a new neo-natal unit.

The Wessexes' first child, Lady Louise Windsor, was born at Frimley Park Hospital in 2003, after the Countess was brought in by emergency ambulance. And the royal and Prince Edward chose to have their second child, James, at Frimley Park in 2007.

This week's visit was the first time she had returned since the birth of her two children.

The Countess had been invited to open the new unit and see a number of other improvements to the maternity department that delivers more than 5,500 babies every year.

The unit was completed just before Christmas and replaced a crowded special care baby unit.
