THE police and the RSPCA are said to be sickened by a incident at a Bordon farm this week where a cow died after having its throat slit by an intruder.

The cow, which was grazing on the field along Hollywater Road, died instantly during the attack, which took place during the early hours of Monday.

Although horses and sheep have been subject to random attacks over the last few years, it is the first time that a cow has been involved in such an incident in this area.

RSPCA spokesperson Sari Eldridge claimed she was distraught when she heard the news and warned other animal owners to be on the lookout.

She said: ÒFrom what I hear, this sounds like a horrific attack on an animal and if anyone does have any information about the attack weÕd very much like to know.Ó

She added: ÒSadly, most of the cases like this we get involve domestic animals but this is the first IÕve heard that involves a cow. I suggest that livestock owners in the area take extra care of their animals over the next few weeks and watch them closely as they are on their own for long periods of time.Ó

ÒIf anyone does knows anything about this or sees anyone or anything acting suspiciously then IÕd like them to contact the police or our animal cruelty hotline on 0870 5555 999,Ó she added.

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on farmyard animals this year and is becoming a worrying trend.

Earlier this May, seven sheep were killed and another was injured on a Lindford farm following a series of horrific attacks over a weekend.

The police have labelled this weekÕs incident Òmalicious and nastyÓ and are looking for witnesses to come forward. If anyone has any information about the attack, which took place between midnight and the following midday, please contact Sgt Davidson at Whitehill Police station on 0845 045 45 45.
