A senior administrator at Petersfield Rugby Club has been awarded one of the sport's highest accolades for her contribution to women's rugby.

Pam Cheeseman has been involved in the game for more than 20 years, at Penns Place, county level and at Twickenham.

She has been a driving force in the development of women's rugby and this week won the Rugby Football Union (Women) Volunteer Award 2004.

Pam set up and ran Petersfield Rugby Club's youth section in 1984, and in 1995 was a founding member of the club's women's section.

She is a past chair of women's rugby at the club, helped set up the successful U16s squad in 2000-01, and is currently secretary of the women's section.

At county level Pam has been a driving force in establishing the Hampshire Rugby Football Union (Women), and has forged links with both Hampshire County Council and Active Sport in Hampshire to promote and develop the game.

At a national level Pam was elected to the committee of the Rugby Football Union (Women) in the late 1990s and has attended countless meetings and conferences at Twickenham, around the country and abroad.

Along with husband Guy, she has spearheaded two national sevens tournaments at Penns Place, in 1998 and 99, and organised the tournament again in 2003 when it was held in Southampton.

Gill Forbes, Petersfield Rugby Club's ladies' chairman, said: "Pam works tirelessly for the development of women's rugby together with her husband Guy. Not only does she help with the development of the game, but she also cares hugely for all whom she comes into contact with, be they other administrators, coaches, officials, and most of all players. She provides tremendous, unconditional support in any and every way that she can, without exception."
