A WOMAN has been inspired by her sister – a student at Treloar College – to take on the virtual Royal Parks Half Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Kimberley Hunter, 25, followed her elder sister Jess, 30, on her journey to the Paralympics Games playing Boccia.
Jess, who has cerebal palsy, attends Treloar College in Holybourne, where she has many friends who have muscle-wasting conditions.
During her time at the school Jess has lost several close friends, and during the first lockdown, one of her Paralympic teammates died.
Kimberley has now decided to run in memory of all the friends Jess has lost to muscle-wasting conditions.
Kimberley said: “My heart melts for all the families who have lost loved ones because of this horrible condition, so I have decided to run the Royal Parks Half for my sister, all of the friends she has lost, their families and anybody who is living with muscular dystrophy.”
Kimberley is new to running and this is her first half marathon. She has been training hard for the past four months.
She was looking forward to the fantastic experience of running along closed roads through four of London’s eight royal parks – Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens – but is happy to now do it virtually in her local area.
MDUK regional manager for London, Louise Moffat, said: “We are so thrilled with what an amazing fundraiser Kim has been already – every penny she raises takes us closer to beating muscular dystrophy.
