A HASLEMERE father completed the virtual London marathon on Sunday to raise funds for Leukaemia and Myeloma Research UK.
Tim Emburey, who works for Chestnut View Care Home in Haslemere and has three children, took on the virtual marathon for a cause which is close to his heart.
"I lost my mother to myeloma," said Tim. "She was diagnosed in September 2008 and was up and down for the rest of her life and was in and out of hospital.
"She was in remission in April 2009, but the cancer came back in October 2009 and she died three weeks later.
"Myeloma is treatable but it’s not curable. It is a blood cancer which affects the bone marrow. It affects a lot of people over 65.
"I’m raising money as I want to help other people who have myeloma and leukaemia."
Tim completed the marathon in 7hr, 14min and 28secs and says he was pleased with the time.
"This was my second marathon as I also did the virtual marathon last year," said Tim.
"I tried to train over the summer. I walked it last year and finished in nine hours.
"This year I started off at Putney, went through Kingston and Esher and finished in Guildford. There were a couple of showers but I was quite lucky with the weather.
"I’m still aching now in my back, legs and feet, but I’m getting there."
