ONE of Farnham's great philanthropists and the man who gave many residents their first taste of Chinese food died in Frimley Park Hospital on Christmas Day.

Henry Liu opened the Kar Ling Kwong restaurant after converting a cottage in East Street 46 years ago.

Down the decades, he raised well over £300,000 for local causes through his charity banquets.

Even during his illness with throat cancer, he continued to fundraise.
