A NEW group for budding young naturalists ‘The Saturday Safari Club’ was launched last month. And due to the high volume of visitors the group has already decided to launch extra sessions to meet these demands.

The club which meets once a month at Pierrepont Farm in Tilford, is perfect for those aged from seven to 11 years old.

Pierrepont education officer, Annika Rees who led the session said: “Saturday’s session was themed ‘Birds through the winter’ and involved us trying to race a migrating swallow, making bird feeders and looking at the structure of feathers under the microscope.

“The club has been so popular that I have decided to set up an afternoon session as well. Unfortunately both are now fully booked, with 12 children attending each session.

“However, I will be putting on activities over the Easter holidays and Pierrepont will be holding our annual Festival of Food, Farming and Wildlife on Sunday, June 5, (open farm Sunday).”

The next session which is completely free, will take place on Saturday, March 19, from 10am until midday. For information about upcoming events go to www.crtinsurrey.org.uk or the Pierrepont Farm Facebook page.
