SAINSBURY’S in South Street, Farnham, has raised more than £3,000 over a 12-month period in aid of the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Detecting Women’s Cancer Appeal, their charity partner for the past year.

Rachel Mason, on behalf of Royal Surrey, collected the cheque totalling £3,315 which went towards the purchase of a tomoynthesis machine, a vital piece of equipment proven to detect breast cancer earlier. The machine was launched by Julie Walters CBE in January this year.

The funds were raised by securing a community grant of £300, through tombola’s, cake sales, an Easter egg raffle and 50/50 draws with support of the Detecting Women’s Cancer volunteers and colleagues. The team managed to raise £1,212 alone through the sales of their bags for life.

Store members said “it’s been a pleasure having Detecting Women’s Cancer as our charity partner over the pass year. We would like to thank Rachel and the volunteers, all our customers and our colleagues for all their huge efforts in supporting this amazing charity.

“We are pleased to announce our new charity partnership as Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance. We look forward to supporting another fantastic charity.”
