SURREY Police Authority is expected to give the green light next week to market the surplus-to-requirements Farnham police station next month.

The 1960s building, currently being used by the police for administration in connection with the Olympics, is one of six stations whose fate will be sealed when the authority meets on Tuesday.

It is a year since the authority agreed the strategy of disposing of "outdated and expensive" stations. The intention is to brigade the majority of non-neighbourhood officers and staff into five core buildings and provide more cost-effective bases for local neighbourhood teams.

In Farnham, an alternative base has not yet been sought as the police station will remain in use until after the Olympics.
