A FARNHAM sandwich shop is in the running to be crowned ‘Sandwich Designer of the Year 2017’ as the competition moves into its semi-final stage. With more than 300 entries to the competition run by British Sandwich and Food to Go Association, Nilufer Yilmaz from Tastebuds is delighted to have been selected as one of nine contestants competing for the title of ‘Finest Sandwich Designer’ in the South West. The nine entrants will be competing in six categories for a chance to proceed to the grand final, ahead of British Sandwich Week in May. British Sandwich and Food to Go Association’s director Jim Winship said: “The South West semi-final is a true mirror on the industry with artisanal independents, catering companies and large scale manufacturers going head to head. “It is fascinating to see how the styles differ so greatly and how the interpretation of a great British classic varies.” Tastebuds owner and co-founder, Nilufer said: “This is our first time to enter this competition and we are very excited to hear that our savoury tuna recipe has been selected. “Our inspiration to enter this prestigious competition comes from the kind feedback received from our clientele who enjoy our unique ‘daily indulgence’ range of fillings, in addition to our regular lines. “The savoury tuna recipe is inspired by my own Asian heritage and designed to provide an experience of inter-continental flavours. We are very honoured to be competing in the semi-finals of such a prestigious competition.” Tastebuds has been in operation for more than 12 years and has premises in Downing Street and also operates a catering service for local businesses, providing an array of foods for lunch and functions.
