AS the lights went out in Woolworths in Alton on Friday, Alton Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has backed the return of regular Saturday markets to the High Street.

Mindful of the economic downturn which has triggered the closure of several outlets – among them the post office, Carman, Pearsons and now Woolworths – leaving a 'gap' at the western end of the High Street, ACCI believes Saturday markets could help preserve the dynamism of the town.
