A GROUP of exceptional students at Farnham Sixth Form College have been rewarded for their achievements and given an incentive for their future with a scholarship award.

The scholarship, which provides students with £800 towards their future education or career plans, is reserved for students who have achieved six or more GCSEs at grade A* or A. It is given in two instalments, when they begin their studies at the college and in the second year of their academic programme.

This year scholarships were awarded to 21 students in total. Catherine Bookham, who is in her first year of studying geography, 3D architectural and environmental design, maths and physics, plans to use her scholarship to get to college each day, so she can save her own money for university.

Lily Bohling, who is in her second year of studying English literature, history, French and the extended project qualification, spent the first instalment of her scholarship on a drum kit last year, and hopes to spend this year’s cheque on a laptop and other resources which will help her with her studies at university. When Lily has finished her studies at Farnham Sixth Form College, she plans to move on to Oxford or Exeter to study law as she would like to become a barrister.

Second year student Ellen Spackman, who is taking A-levels in chemistry, biology, English literature and maths, said: “I have saved all of my scholarship money to put towards work experience in Peru or Tanzania where I hope to work in a hospital.”

After college, Ellen hopes to study medicine at Bristol University.

Dr Jason Jones, the director of Farnham Sixth Form College, said: “I would like to congratulate our scholarship students on their exceptional exam results, which are testament not only to their outstanding ability but also to their sheer hard work and commitment to their studies.

“As a high-performing sixth form college it is a privilege to work with these students, nurturing their potential and supportively challenging them to reach very high standards of academic achievement.”
