TWO year seven pupils from Amery Hill School and assistant headteacher Joleen Riley have received a certificate, on behalf of the school, from Michael Gwynne, president of the Lions Club of Alton.

The certificate recognised the school’s efforts in supporting SpecTrek, an initiative which sees unwanted spectacles collected, sorted and graded before being sent to Third World countries to be given to people who desperately need them.

The two girls actively promoted the collection of old glasses around all the school’s classrooms, adding significantly to the hundreds of pairs which Alton Lions collect every year for this good cause.

The Lions ask that if anyone has an old pair of glasses they no longer need, they should put them in one of the collection bins at either the Herald office or Amery Hill School.
