BADSHOT Lea Village Infant School has celebrated its 120th anniversary.

The school was officially opened on November 9, 1895, by Mrs AW Chapman. There were 150 official visitors who were treated to a speech on ’Education Matters’ and despite no blackboards having been delivered, boys’ football started at the school several days later.

One-hundred and twenty years later, the whole school community celebrated this achievement. A church service was held at St George’s Church with many guests including the Mayor of Farnham, Pat Frost, staff past and present and many lifelong residents of the village in attendance.

Visitors were treated to tea and cakes in the school hall, where there was a display of memorabilia, where some guests found names of relatives in the schools punishment book dating back to 1908. Later in the day, parents and children continued the celebrations with a barn dance in the school hall and a firework display organised by ‘The Friends’ of Badshot Lea.

Headteacher Gemma Ball said: “It was a wonderful day and one which I hope the children will not forget for many years. It was so special to hear tales from past pupils and to learn of the history of this extraordinary community school. Here’s to the next 120 years.”
