DIRECTOR of education for Guildford Diocese, Alex Tear, officially opened St John’s Infant School’s “bright, colourful and inspiring” new library.

The Churt school celebrated its library’s opening with the help of local children’s author Naomi Kefford, school governors, parents, children and friends of the school.

Building work took place over the summer holidays and the children returned in September to a fabulous new school library.

The whole school community worked extremely hard to raise funds for this project and now the children are reaping the rewards.

To celebrate Naomi Kefford gave a presentation to the children about how she wrote her book, ‘When the Dragons Came’, then all the school took part in a big ‘thank you’ assembly, followed by the official opening.

Story times, book sales and book swaps were taking place throughout the day.

Headteacher Ginnie Gregory said: “We are absolutely delighted with our new library. It is bright, colourful and very inspiring.

“I’m not sure how we managed without it, as it is in constant use and the children are benefiting from it every day.

“For us, it can be a quiet place for calm reading, an inspiring place for research and a magical place where we can read and discuss books together.

“We are so grateful to everyone for all their contributions and support.”
