TUESDAY, June 14, will see students at Robert May’s School looking to extend their community ties with elderly residents.
Students at the school will be working with the Older Persons Wellbeing Committee, Hampshire Police and Neighbourhood Watch with the aim of fostering links between the more elderly residents of the local community and the young people.
Due to the great success of the Diamond Jubilee Tea Dance, the Royal Wedding Tea Dance, VE Day celebrations and its previous Christmas parties the school have held, the Older Persons Wellbeing Committee and students are looking to hold another event this year to celebrate summer, and the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
The event they will be holding will take place in June.
It will involve music from the 1940s and 1950s to which guests will hopefully find the time to get up and have a boogie, while also providing fun for the DJ, who will be playing some modern music too.
The hope is that some of those in attendance will have a go at dancing to some of the more modern sounds on the airwaves.
The second part of the event will see a much-needed break from the booms and beats of the music, as guests will be treated to afternoon tea, with students making sandwiches and cakes to serve to Wellbeing members along with a cup of tea or coffee.
The school is offering anyone unable to provide their own transportation to the school, a chance to be picked up and returned to their home afterwards, although minibus seats are limited.
The afternoon tea will start at 3pm and end at 5pm.
If residents are interested in attending the event, they are being advised to email [email protected] or phone Robert May’s on 01256 702700 an advise the school on how many people they wish to bring along and whether transport will be required.
