BURYFIELDS Infant School has come up with a novel way to raise funds to “enrich school provision”.

The Odiham school is asking pupils, parents and businesses to donate any unwanted foreign money or old UK coins that are sat lying around the house in old tins and draws.

There is an estimated £100m in old foreign coins across the UK that can be used for good causes, and any amount of old currency the school receives can turn into a valuable donation.

The slightly unusual way of raising funds comes from the school wanting to move away from people putting their hands their pockets in the traditional way, or collecting clothes or bric-a-brac for sales.

Old American $1 dollar bills and quarters, German marks, Spanish pesatas, UK shillings and old pre-decimal coins are all of use when donating, and with most no longer in circulation the school are asking for them to be sent their way to boost school funds.

The school is using Cash4Coins to help with he exchanging of the coins, with all coins donated being sent their way, and a sum of money is returned based on current exchange rates, like US dollars, or weight of the coin, in the case of old European currency.

To donate, call the school on 01256 702667 or use the collection bucket at Lloyds Bank on Odiham High Street.
