Year seven pupils from St Nicholas’ School in Church Crookham recently visited Britain’s once best kept secret, Bletchley Park. Situated in Milton Keynes, it is now a heritage site and busy tourist attraction.
The girls enjoyed a tour of some of the iconic Second World War code breaking site and learned about the astonishing achievements of the code breakers whose work is said to have helped shorten the war by two years.
The landscape has been returned to its 1940s appearance, with added sound to create the atmosphere of the site, and pupils enjoyed an hour-long workshop on ‘codes and ciphers’.
They were also given an opportunity to see a genuine Enigma machine and learned about its vital role.
