Aldershot & Farnborough Schools 4, Poole 2 (aet). Two fine goals in extra time saw Aldershot U/15s through to the third round of the English Schools' Trophy after a tense and well-contested game at Alton Town's ground on Friday.

Poole took the lead midway through the first half. They suddenly caught the home defence square and speedy striker Tom Stainer confidently beat John Lancashire in goal.

Jason Pearce, outstanding in his first U/15 game, skilfully put Sam Brown away down the left and his deep cross was played back by Dave Jones for skipper James Field to slot in to level the scores at half-time.

Aldershot, now having much the better of the play, took the lead when Ryan Scott headed home from Jamie Brand's long free-kick.

With Adrian Collins and substitute Aaron Baber keeping the Poole defence at full stretch, a home win seemed certain. However, in the very last minute of normal time, a neat finish from Adrian Miles took the game into extra time.

The introduction of striker Liam Marum was the turning point for Aldershot, and, at last, Collins' efforts were rewarded when he raced clear and finished clinically.

Marum, revelling in his new role, scored a great and deciding fourth goal as he swivelled and found the top far corner of the net from long range.

Aldershot are home to Swindon in the next round.

HAMPSHIRE SCHOOLS' U/14 MAYES LEAGUE

Aldershot & Farnborough 4, Gosport & Fareham 1. A commanding second-half display gave Aldershot U/14s a welcome league win at Cove on Saturday.

Gosport, coached by former Farnborough defender Andy Bye, opened brightly and it was no surprise when a through-ball split the home defence and Tom Settle easily beat Paul Smith.

Manager Mark Rochester quickly switched Jason Pearce to the middle of defence. He immediately took control and Gosport rarely threatened again.

A second half-time change which gave Ben Dainton a more attacking role was equally successful. Dainton, set up by Sean Simpson and Liam Marum, soon opened Aldershot's account and then Dainton struck again.

The long goal kicks of substitute 'keeper Chris Foster also caused the young visitors real problems as they struggled to keep the tall Marum and powerful Dainton at bay.

Karl Wright neatly tucked away a swinging free-kick from Michael Blount before Daniel Brogan, linking with Marum and Dainton, drove in a low drive for the fourth goal.
