‘Farnham Blooming’ is a community dance project that was created in 2015. It involved around 150 children performing specially choreographed dances along the route taken by the judges of Farnham in Bloom. The 2016 project aims to build on last year’s success and to involve even more children.
Rachel Palmer, programme director at The Dance Movement said: “One of our main aims is to create dance performances with and for the local community. Our theme for this year’s project is the ‘Green Man’.
“This is often interpreted as a symbol that represents the cycle of growth each spring and is therefore very relevant to Farnham in Bloom.
“To widen the community’s involvement, we are offering to provide three schools with a professional dance teacher who will work with a group or class of children to create a dance. The idea is that all the schools involved in the project will come together to perform their dances before the judges of this year’s Farnham in Bloom.
“We are also hoping that some of the young dancers will be able to take part in Farnham Carnival. Thanks to a grant from Farnham Town Council, we are able to provide the after-school dance class free of charge. To avoid disappointment, I would urge any school that is interested in being part of this large outdoor dance event to get in touch.”
The dance classes will be held weekly for a period of eight weeks. Schools that would like to take part should be able to provide a large space suitable for the children to dance.
