A SCOUT group is on the hunt for a “forever home” to offer “stability for our members, our leaders and the Bordon community”.

Bordon Scouts is currently located in the Holme in Headley which, although it “ticks many of the boxes for the group, it makes the growing and developing of the group from the Bordon community very difficult”, according to Rotherfield district commissioner, Stephen Foster.

During Whitehill Town Council’s executive committee meeting on Monday (November 11), Adam Carew, who attended as a district and county councillor, and who was himself a 1st Bordon Scout, raised Pinewood Village Hall as an option.

He said: “I’m aware there are two organisations locally looking for a new place to be and I am concerned that if Pinewood Village Hall closes permanently and is deemed to be surplus to requirements, where are these people going to go?

“One organisation has been given a year and if they don’t find somewhere with proper storage they’re going to be disbanded and that is not going to happen, we won’t let it happen.”

The scout group was previously located in Martinique House in Bordon, but were moved from there and temporarily closed.

They reopened in February 2017 and are now “keen to grow as a group, be more visible within the Bordon community and enrich our programme for the young members”, Mr Foster continued.

He said the group have looked into “many options within the Bordon area for a forever home” and added: “Solutions are still being explored.

“We would like to utilise the Eco Station in Bordon, but are open to any space that is suitable for the group and our members to grow.

“Although we do not have to move out from the Holme in January 2020, this is not the right location for us and is only a temporary solution as we are 1st Bordon Scout Group and Headley already has a scout group.”

But, Mr Foster did confirm it was “not true” the group would have to fold if they cannot find anything by then.

Councillor Katie Anscomb added: “Along with work being done at district level, we are approaching partners including Whitehill Village Hall to explore options available.

“In parallel we are seeking to understand how genuine justification can be given for key facilities including Pinewood Village Hall to simply remain empty and unusable and not made available to organisations like this for use within the immediate community that the building was put into place to serve.”
