New members only joined the club at the beginning of September and this was the second competition they participated in.
The club won two medals last year and was hoping to improve its results. This year members won an amazing 19 medals – eight gold, five silver and six bronze, across all age groups.
The competition is split into four age groups, under-11, under-14, under-18 and over 18, with members competing in three different events.
Field archery involves shooting at a variety of different target position in ditches with other obstacles in the way, in the woods.
This is followed by target archery, where depending on age, participants shoot at different distances at an 80cm target and then finally the Clout, where a flag is put in the ground at 60 yards for U14 and 100 Yards for over 14s, who - under instruction, shoot in “Agincourt” style.
The club runs every week and after starting its shooting sessions in the Scouts and Guide Hall at the Millennium Centre, has been able to allow its members to practice in the field behind the Deer’s Hut pub, at Griggs Green, which was offered by owner Richard Northcott, resulting in a major improvement of their skills.
