MORE than 1,900 cubs from across Surrey including packs from Haslemere District celebrated 100 years of Cub Scouting at an activity day called SCRAM at Hook Arena, Epsom, back in June.

Cubs were able to try many new and large scale activities that cannot be organised in groups or districts as well as being able to mix with cubs from other districts.

More than 100 activities were on offer including quad bikes, zip wire, bungee running and zorbing as well as smaller activities like making popcorn, firing water rockets and much more.

The event was part of Cubs 100 – a year-long programme of events in celebration of the Cubs’ centenary year in 2016.

More than 156,000 cubs will have the opportunity to get involved with the ‘Widest Birthday Ever’ experience, creating new memories and friendships throughout the year.

During a lunchtime ceremony, cubs represented their packs by carrying 100 flags showing events that happened each year since 1916.

The Scout Association hopes Cubs 100 will help to further the growth of the movement among both young people and adult volunteers.

Ali Tickett, SCRAM organiser for Surrey, said: “A massive thank-you to everyone who came to help at SCRAM.

The challenge of a new site coupled with mud reminiscent of your soggiest camp ever but with 2,500 people on it, gave us a day that will be with us for a long time in Cubs legend.”
