POSITIVE memories of World War II were brought to life by living history group Screaming Eagles at a revival weekend hosted by Moorhouse Nursing Home, in Hindhead.

Saturday’s free event saw the 30-strong Bordon-based group turn the clock back to the 1940s enacting 101st Airborne, Company E.

The company was famously captured in the book ‘Band of Brothers’ and in the TV mini-series.

Screaming Eagles use period equipment and tents to re-enact their time both in and out of combat and the group owns a number of jeeps to add to the authenticity.

Moorhouse manager Martin Neale said: “The fete was planned as part of a 1940s revival weekend at the nursing home.

“It enabled residents and visitors to reminisce about their wartime experiences and to celebrate the more positive aspects of wartime Britain.

“Vic Cracknell was the guest singer. He was very popular and gave everyone a rousing rendition of popular World War II songs.

“The re-enactment group were very enthusiastic and informative and everyone who attended had a good time.

“The celebrations continued the next day when residents and families were treated to a vintage afternoon tea followed by a performance of songs and verse from the staff, Carol, Pauline, Sue, Sally and Lynne in particular.”
