THE search continues for a home for a skatepark in Bordon after a proposed site was deemed inappropriate by the district council.

The land adjoining the Forest Community Centre was suggested as a possible site by Whitehill town councillor, Basil Smith, in October 2001.

He said it would be close enough to shops and the community centre for its users to be safe, but far enough away from houses to cause too much of a nuisance.

At a meeting of the town council on Monday, members were told that a letter had been received from East Hampshire District Council, which owns the land, about its availability.

The letter explained that the land would not be the most appropriate site for a skateboard facility as there are a wide variety of options for use of this particular site.

The search for a suitable site for a skatepark is now set to continue after two years of deliberation.

The councilÕs first choice was for it to be built on its own land at Jubilee Park but those plans were shelved after some residents near the park objected.

A report was put together by a specially selected group of councillors suggesting available sites in Bordon.

In July 2001, councillors agreed to look in more detail at the possibility of siting the skate park on land next to the Meadow School.

At the time it was decided not to pursue sites such as the land adjacent to the Forest Community Centre and the recreation ground.

But in September 2001, the council had another set-back when it found that its first choice sites may not be available because they may be needed for a future expansion of the Meadow School.

Councillors agreed, after discussions with the Ministry of Defence, that land next to Barbados House in Station Road was a new possibility. Members are still awaiting confirmation of availability.
