THE atmosphere was buzzing at this year’s summer fundraising event organised by Potters Gate School which raised more than £8,000 for the school.
The school decided to bring a ‘Bestival vibe’ to Farnham and create a music event with entertainment for the whole family.
Thanks to the support of the sponsors Charters Estate Agents and volunteers from The Botanist Restaurant, The Round Table, Bourne WI, Starbucks and Core Sports, along with the generosity of all the local businesses who donated prizes for the day, the Friends of Potters Gate are absolutely thrilled to be able to tell everyone that this year’s Secret Garden Festival has raised a record breaking £8,600.
The head of the organising committee for the festival, Tristen Irvine, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in making this event such a warm and wonderful family day. Many fairgoers said that it felt more like a village fete than a school fair as there was so much to do which was lovely to hear.
“We had some wonderful local business stalls trading on the day, and we are lucky to have some musically talented current, and past Potters Gate family members who performed on the main stage, including my own husband’s band ‘Which Way’s North’ who headlined the festival for me.
“We try to ensure that there is a good balance of entertainment – shopping, games and free activities to make it very family friendly. It was lovely to be able to support some very talented local people whilst still fundraising for the school.”
Highlights of the festival included the flower crown workshop by florist Kristina from Peaches and Green, henna tattoo artists Henna By Hand, bouncy fun by Planet Bounce, the children performing their air guitar skills on the main stage.
There was also the Angry Birds game, where children fired stuffed angry bird toys using a giant slingshot made by parent James Lovell of www.sla.uk.com.
The Friends of Potters Gate said: “We feel lucky to be a part of such an amazing community of people, thank you to everyone who came along to join in the fun and we look forward to welcoming you to next summer’s even bigger festival May next year.”
