A SECURITY van believed to be carrying a large amount of cash slid off the road and became stuck in the mud between Petersfield and Liphook on Wednesday.

The security guards in the Securitas seven tonne Mercedes van refused at first to leave their posts. But as more police arrived on the scene they left the van to be treated for whiplash neck injuries by ambulancemen at the scene of the accident.

The accident happened on Wednesday morning when the van slid on mud on the B2070 close to the Black Fox pub outside Liphook. A police spokesman said the van slid across the road, partly into a tree and partly into more mud where it became stuck.

Sirens were immediately set off inside the van warning repeatedly: ÔWe are under attack.Õ

Traffic police from Whitehill and from Sussex attended the incident and were in attendance until a recovery vehicle had removed the van from the mud.
