A FAULTY cash machine paid out free cash to Haslemere customers when it gave out double the amount requested. The cashpoint outside The Abbey in Wey Hill paid out double for several hours last Wednesday evening with some customers emptying their bank accounts to take advantage of their good fortune. A spokeswoman from The Abbey told The Herald that although it would not confirm how much "free" money was taken out from the machine, it was "not a huge amount". She said that the unusual withdrawals at the machine over a few hours alerted The Abbey to the fact that there was a fault and the cashpoint was taken off line to be fixed. The machine was working normally the following day. Lucky customers who benefited from the fault are not being asked to return their cash. "It is our problem and our faulty machine and we will not be asking customers to return the money," the spokeswoman said.
