MOVES towards the long-awaited re-development of East Street will take a step forward next week with Farnham's interest groups being invited to a meeting to help shape the project.

The start of Waverley council's public consultation will come next Thursday (May 2) with a meeting between council officers, agents and consultant lawyers for the scheme, and representatives of various Farnham groups.

The meeting will seek views of all interested parties, and Waverley has written to the chairmen of all 37 residents' associations inviting them to contribute to the process.

Residents with specific interests or concerns are being encouraged to express their views through local chairmen.

Eight developers have been invited to produce schemes in line with Waverley's development brief - a set of guidelines for developers - by July 15.

Copies of the development brief can be seen in the Farnham Locality Office in South Street and on the Waverley website.

In a statement, the council said: "It is our wish to carry out a policy of transparency throughout the East Street development project, thus enabling us to keep the Farnham public fully informed.

"Prior to a public exhibition of the schemes we receive, further follow-up meetings will be held to discuss specific issues."
