POLICE are still appealing for information following a “suspicious incident” in Aldershot which has sparked further fears of military personnel being targeted for abduction.

Police were called to a suspicious incident around 8.40am last Wednesday, at the junction between Queens Avenue and Hospital Hill, Aldershot, where two men were seen “acting suspiciously” in a blue Renault Clio.

The incident came just two weeks after an abduction attempt at RAF Marham in Norfolk.

Hampshire police said that “at this stage there is nothing to suggest that a crime has been committed” but “we are looking into why the two men had stopped the car on this stretch of road”.

However, popular military Facebook page Fill Your Boots reported a possible abduction, before posting: “Alert confirmed: Just been briefed by our colonel and told no uniforms to be worn to work and out in town.”

Police said that no contact was made between the two men and the person reporting the incident, who is a civilian member of staff who works within the military complex at Aldershot.

No central MoD advice has been issued regarding military personnel wearing uniforms when off duty, but units can issue their own guidance.

Anyone who may have seen a blue Renault Clio with two men inside in the area at the time in question is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44160289416.
