HEAVY rain over Christmas has left Holybourne reeling from the smell and sight of sewage flooding out of a main at the Upper Neatham Mill Lane sewage pumping station into the River Wey.
The pipe bringing sewage from the village to the pumping station ruptured on Christmas Eve, flooding a public footpath and pasture land and ending up in the river.
While the footpath linking Upper and Lower Neatham Mill Lane has now been shut, animals removed from the field and the area fenced off, the sewage is still escaping.
