HOMES within one mile of the Farnham sewage treatment works in Monkton Lane have allegedly suffered an increase in foul smells in recent weeks. Thames Water, which manages the treatment works, is undertaking emergency repairs to the plant after a number of problems with its operation emerged. This has resulted in the need to empty the plant's 'cake' storage silo on a daily basis and put it into large skips before removing it from the site. Thames Water's team manager for the Farnham area, Neil Cunliffe, warned this would increase the risk of odours coming from the plant. Roger Steel, Waverley borough councillor for Farnham Moor Park, said he has been "inundated" with complaints from nearby residents. For full story, see this week's Farnham Herald.
